Research Assistant II

The Department of Biomathematics in collaboration with the Department of Experimental Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Research Assistant II to provide responsible technical assistance in carrying out various research projects.

SUMMARY: Primary responsibility of this position is to conduct experiments and carry out research projects in the biomedical field.  May include any or all of the following: handling of mice, the isolation and purification of mammalian cellular nucleic acids and proteins, PCR, gel electrophoresis and blotting techniques, and performing assays of normal tissue damage.

Essential Functions include the extraction of cellular nucleic acids and proteins from various animal tissues, performing gel electrophoresis, Western analysis and immunohistochemistry, PCR, irradiation of animals, monitoring of irradiated animals, precision in preparing solutions and recording data.  Manually enters data using computer keyboard and using computer software analyzes data.  Reads literature and confers with superiors regarding new procedures and results obtained. Monitors subordinate Research Assistants, Research Technicians, and Laboratory Technical Assistants.

Requirements include Bachelor's degree with major course work in one of the following sciences: Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology with two years of experience in scientific or experimental research work, independent decision making, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.  Must be willing to work with animals.

Salary Grade/Range: Grade: 276 / Min: $ 25,300 / Mid: $ 31,650 / Max: $ 38,000
